Delay in getting a life partner has thrown many singles, widows and widowers into a state of frustration and other negative dispositions. In fact like Lot’s daughters, some have erroneously concluded that there is probably no one for them to marry. They feel that they are alone in their struggle and that they have been forgotten. But as a Christian, you should understand that you are never alone. In the midst of your challenges, God is always with you. He remembers you and His eyes are always watching over you. In Isaiah 49:15, God reassures us that He’ll never forget us: “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.” It is obvious and gratifying from here that God doesn’t forget His children because He loves them dearly. He has a purpose for your life and nothing can change or hinder it. He wants you to be married (Genesis 2:18; Matthew 19:4-6) and He’ll settle you in His time.
The devil may have started whispering to you to marry a non- Christian instead of waiting on God for His perfect will. Never listen to him. Don’t bother about the devil’s subtle lies that you are still single because you have no value, or that your physique or age has put you at a disadvantage. God’s infallible Word confirms that you are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). God is preparing someone special for you.
Believe in God’s promises for you. He is faithful; what He has promised, He’ll do, no matter how long it takes. The Bible confirms this in Joshua 21:45: ‘There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.” Take Him at His Word and cling to it, “no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly” (Psalm 84:11). You have a Father who loves and cares for you. He knows what is best for you. He sees your pain and hears your cry. The Bible exhorts that you cast “all your care upon him; for he careth for you” (1 Peter 5:7). He is relentlessly committed to giving His precious sons and daughters His perfect wilt in all areas of life, including marriage.
Therefore, there is no reason to feel depressed, frustrated or desperate. It is always better to wait for God than to run ahead of Him. If you succumb to pressure and get too hasty to get married, you may take a route that will attract God’s displeasure. So, regardless of your present feeling or the thought that might be running through your mind, rest assured that you haven’t been forgotten. He has a specific plan for your life and He is in full control of everything you are going through.
On your part, be steadfast and faithful to Him. The Scripture says, “Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him” (Psalm 37:7). Trust and obey Him because He has your best interest at heart. Don’t doubt or place God on a timed watch. Hope and wait on Him and in His time, He will settle you in a pleasant place.
If you’re a widow or widower, be assured that you’re in God’s plan. If it’s your desire to remarry, seek God’s face in prayer and trust Him (1 Timothy 5:5). His Word says in Psalm 68:6, “God setteth the solitary in families.” He is powerful and caring enough to bring relief your way. He will take you out of that lonely state, make you comfortable, settle you, and bring joy and happiness to your life again.
